Open Y Database Research
Creating the combined FT and YF haplogroup tree was generally a simple task. But merely merging the haplogroup contents of the two trees created more than 214,000 recurrent SNPs. By first looking at each database, that number has been greatly reduced to 38,632! And 673,189 SNPs are clear and free and organized into 103,725 haplogroups. They are now incorporated into the Open Y database — with caveats.
However, by merging only the non-recurrent SNPs from both databases, an additional 16,185 recurrent SNPs are created! This brings the grand total to 54,817 recurrent SNPs in the Open Y database. I've started a preliminary report on them but there's more work to be done.
To learn something about the early background of this project, which started in earnest during February 2025, see these reports.
