PVs are private variants, but I consider the term to be a misnomer. Once fully processed, very few are truly "private." Indeed, give yourself a gold star if it's determined that you're the first in your lineage to have such a marker. You might have started a brand new haplogroup and passed it down to your sons and their male lineage descendants.

Because of my dislike for the term, I call them here "unmatched variants" and elsewhere simply novel SNPs. And they remain novel, or unmatched, until a tester comes along that matches them. Such matches are generally found in cousins of varying degrees.

For FTDNA, you can find your variants in your account: "Big Y," "Results," "Private Variants." You can simply copy and paste them into the appropriate box. Otherwise, ask your vendor.
